Final Project Statement
My project is titled Blue Room. I want this piece is to focus more on atmosphere and mood than on structured narrative. I'm planning on focusing particularly on themes of isolation, depression, and loneliness through lingering, claustrophobic shots of someone by themselves in a room. The shots will have a heavy blue tint to them. As the images continue, they will begin to blend together through different visual effects. To accompany this collage of images, a voice will tell a short, first person narrative story. The story itself is not directly connected to the images on screen, but will share the themes and feelings that are evoked by them. When the story ends, the shots will switch to much longer, more static shots of the sky. I want the images to contrast with the images from the room, mainly because they are so vast and open compared to the tight, intimate shots in the last section. There will also be no visual effects, motion, or narration, further separating them.
I will be using a variety of shots that I have taken, as well as the audio recording of a narrative story. I'm going to use a few other ambient sound recordings I have also taken. I'm planning on mainly trying to use my own sound recordings for this project, but I may end up adding one or two that have been downloaded from the internet.
I'm really interested in continuing with some of the ideas and techniques we focused on in our abstraction project, which is where a lot of this idea initially came from. I want to create something that captures a feeling or an emotion, rather than tell a story. I want it to be able to be taken in different ways depending on how different people see it.
